Things to Know
Before you read the guide, I'd like to give you some quick advice on battling gym leaders. First, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
that you do not try to skip the gym trainers. They give you extra experience points, and give you a quick start on what the gym leader's
Pokemon will be like. Second, save before you battle gym leaders. I know that it's not like the Elite Four, but you'll lose
half you money that may be essential in buying important items like potions. Last of all, try to train all your Pokemon to around the levels of the
gym leader's Pokemon.
Gym #1 Rustboro City--Roxanne: Rock Types:
Geodude Lv.12
Geodude Lv.12
Nosepass Lv.15
Like with RS, if you started with Mudkip or Treeko, this should be no problem. Use Mudkip's Water Gun for best damage, and Treeko's Absorb
or Bullet Seed if you taught it that. If you started with Torchic, I suggest you train a Ralts until it learns Confusion and use it
on Roxanne's Pokemon. Otherwise, a Beautifly with Absorb will also do, but it'll be perfectly vulnerable to Rock attacks, so bring lots of Potions and Revives if you
can. I recommend you train at least two of your Pokemon to level 14 to 16. Win and get a Stone Badge.
Gym #2 Dewford Town--Brawly: Fighting Types:
Machop Lv.16
Meditite Lv.16
Makuhita Lv.19
Beautifly, Dustox, and Taillow are perfect Pokemon for this. Gust from Beautifly is super effective, Confusion from Dustox (or Ralts) does great, and
Taillow's Gust and Wing Attack are #1. Don't use Normal Pokemon like Skitty--they'll get knocked out very soon. Basically, any Flying type will lead you to victory.
If you have your Pokemon around level 17, this shouldn't be too hard. If you win, you will get a Knuckle Badge!
Gym #3 Mauville City--Wattson: Electric/Steel Types:
Voltorb Lv.20
Electrike Lv.20
Magneton Lv.22
Manectric Lv.24
This battle will be pretty hard if you started with Treeko or Torchic. If you do not think you have another way to get the essential
Ground, Fire, and Fighting types, you should evolve Torchic into Combusken and or catch an Aron or Geodude at the cave in Dewford Town.
If you have Mudkip, evolve it into Marshtomp. It will not only help you in this battle, but in others to follow. The only way to
get Mud Shot (a highly effective move) is if you evolve Mudkip into Marshtomp at the evolving level. Then you'll have a very high chance of victory. Win and get a
Dynamo Badge.
Gym #4 Lavaridge Town--Flannery: Fire Types:
Numel Lv.24
Camerupt Lv.26
Slugma Lv.24
Torkoal Lv.29
Flannery's Pokemon are slow, but beware of her Overheat attack. All of her Pokemon know it, and though it cuts down half of the user's
Special Attack, it heck deals a lot of damage no matter how many times she uses it. DO NOT bring out Grass, Bug, or Steel Pokemon! They will get flamed
instantly. Even Water types will have trouble if they're not high enough. If you have Mudkip/Marshtomp, get him out and use Water Gun or Mud Shot. Rock types like
Geodude will also do well. Try to finish Flannery off as fast as you can. Make SURE you bring Super Potions/Revives! Beat her to get the Heat Badge.
Gym #5 Petalburg City--Norman: Normal Types:
Spinda Lv.27
Vigoroth Lv.27
Linoone Lv.29
Slaking Lv.29
Battle with your Dad! ^^ If you have a Fighting type, you'll do fine. Norman isn't particularly hard, not with his team of Normal types.
But Spinda's Teeter Dance can be very annoying, so dispose of it as fast as you can. Try not to deal status damage to Vigoroth, or it could finish you with Facade.
Linoone won't be too much trouble. Slaking attacks every other turn, so use strong moves in between to get an advantage. Win and get the Balance Badge.
Gym #6 Fortee City--Winona: Flying Types:
Swablu Lv.29
Tropius Lv.29
Pelipper Lv.30
Skarmory Lv.31
Altaria Lv.33
Bird attack! XDD The best moves will of course be Eletric, so if you have Manetric or Plusle/Minun, Swablu, Tropius, and Pelipper will be
quickly disposed of. Skarmory is half Steel, so Fire attacks will be super effective. Rock types can head out all of Winona's Pokemon.
Altaria is part Dragon, so Eletric moves won't do as much. NEVER use Grass types here! Win and get a Feather Badge.
Gym #7 Mossdeep City--Liza and Tate: Psychic Types:
Claydol Lv.41
Xatu Lv.41
Lunatone Lv.42
Solrock Lv.42
Dark types will be great for this, because all of Liza and Tate's Pokemon are half Psychic. Claydol's Earthquake is powerful and annoying, so
take it out with Water and Dark attacks. Don't even try using Ground moves: all of this gym's Pokemon won't be effected by it.
Solrock is half Psychic, so Dark attacks will get an extra advantage, as well as Water because it's also half Rock. Eletric moves will be useful against Xatu, too. Beat these twins and get the Mind Badge.
Gym #8 Sootopolis City--Juan: Water Types:
Luvdisc Lv.41
Whiscash Lv.41
Sealeo Lv.43
Crawdaunt Lv.43
Wow. A NEW gym leader. ^^ Powerful Electric attacks can easily finish off all but Whiscash, which is half Ground.
I suggest the use of Thunderbolt and Thunder, which you should know by now if you have an Electric Pokemon. Grass types will be super effective against
all, and double super effective against Whiscash. Juan is about as still as Water can get! Win and get a Rain Badge! (Note: If you have trouble with this
gym leader, you'll be whooped by the Elite Four)
Recommended Types:
Fire
Water
Fighting
Ground
Electric
Ice
Elite Four #1--Sidney: Dark Types:
Mightyena Lv.46
Shiftry Lv.48
Cacturne Lv.46
Crawdaunt Lv.48
Absol Lv.49
Some of Sidney's Pokemon can be KOed by Blaziken's Blaze Kick, if you have it. Those include Mightyena (if your attack is strong enough), Shiftry (yeah duh),
and Cacturne (another half-Grass). For Crawdaunt, you can always use an Electric or Grass attack, and all of Sidney's Pokemon have a weakness to
Fighting types. Another thing to watch out for is that all the Elite Four love using Full Restores on their Pokemon as soon as HP hits red.
So try to finish off their Pokemon as fast as you can. DO NOT WASTE TIME ON ONE POKEMON.
Elite Four #2--Phoebe: Ghost Types:
Dusclops Lv.48
Banette Lv.49
Sableye Lv.50
Banette Lv.49
Dusclops Lv.51
Ghost and Dark attacks are super effective against Ghost Pokemon. So if you have a Mightyena, Absol, Dusclops, etc., use them.
Phoebe's Pokemon like to use Curse a lot, and though it cuts their HP in half and may end up fainting them, it still gets annoying. To revive your Pokemon from Curse,
simply switch them out. Bring Burn Heals, because Banette's Will-o-Wisp can burn you, and bring Leppa Berries to restore PP from Spite attacks.
Another thing: finish off Sableye as quickly as you can. It will use Double Team, which gets super annoying, and you will only be able to get an equal advantage by not bringing out
Pokemon that are Fighting, Poison, or Normal. Sableye is a dual-type, and unfortunately it has no weaknesses. Watch out for Full Restores! Either finish a Pokemon in two attacks, or finish them off in one. If
your first attack hits their HP to the red zone, Phoebe (and any Elite) is definite to use a Full Restore.
Elite Four #3--Glacia: Ice Types:
Glalie Lv.50
Sealeo Lv.50
Sealeo Lv.52
Glalie Lv.52
Walrein Lv.53
Fire, Fighting, and Rock types will do best. (Make sure your Rock type is not half Ground, or it'll get KOed!) Finish off the Glalie with
super-effective attacks. Beware: don't use Fire or Rock types against Sealeo. It's Ice Ball will do instant KO. You might want to watch out for Body Slam, because it can
paralyze your Pokemon. Electric attacks will be great here. And against Walrein, try to bring out a Pokemon that's Lv.54 or higher, or else its Sheer Cold can 1-hit-KO you.
If you do, Sheer Cold will have no effect. Electric moves will be the suggested here.
Elite Four #4--Drake: Dragon Types:
Shelgon Lv.52
Altaria Lv.54
Kingdra Lv.53
Flygon Lv.53
Salamence Lv.55
Ah, the last and final of the Elite Four, the Dragon-raiser Drake. Dragon moves are super-effective against Drake's Pokemon, so if you have something like Flygon, bring it out
for a short time and try to KO your opponents as fast as you can. Remember, their attacks will be super-effective against your dragons, too. If you have a Pokemon that's no Dragon-type but has
Dragon-type attacks, then awesome! (Personally, I used my Flygon XDD) Anyway, to be on the best and more safe side, you'd want to bring out Ice Pokemon with Ice attacks. Ice will be particulary double-super-effective
against Salamence. Watch out for Flamethrower and Earthquakes, they can be deadly.
Champion--Wallace: Water Types:
Wailord Lv.57
Ludicolo Lv.56
Gyarados Lv.56
Tentacruel Lv.55
Whiscash Lv.56
Milotic Lv.58
Ah...so Steven got his bum kicked, eh? XDD Anyway, as you can obviously see, Wallace still has nearly all full-Water type Pokemon.
Thunder should destroy Wailord, Gyarados, Tentacruel, and Milotic. It'll half no effect on Whiscash, because it's half Ground. For Ludicolo, try to take it out
with Flying attacks. Otherwise, Fire and Electric will do, too. Whiscash can be creamed with Grass types. Otherwise, try neutral attacks.
I hope this guide helped! Man, it took me quite a while to type it all. XDD *hops away and crashes
