You gain access to the Battle Frontier, an island at the bottom of the Hoenn map, after you defeat the Elite Four in Pokemon Emerald. Scott, the mysterious man you meet throughout your travels, is actually the creator of Battle Frontier. You gain no experience points in battles on the frontier.
There are seven different battle areas on the frontier, each with a leader called the Frontier Brain. Beating them once gets you a silver symbol, and beating them twice will gain you a gold symbol. When you first arrive at Battle Frontier, you will receive a frontier card, which will take the place of your normal trainer ID card. Symbols that you earn will be recorded on the frontier card, as well as Battle Points, which you get when you when a battle. You can trade your Battle Points for items at the frontier.
- You can not use eggs, Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, Celebi, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Jirachi, or Deoxys.
- You can not have more than one of the same Pokemon in your 3-Pokemon team.
- You can only equip an item to each Pokemon, and the items must differ. You will not be allowed access to your items in the seven areas.
- If you shut off your Gameboy during a battle, all data will be lost, and it'll count as a loss if you're in the middle of an area's challenge.
- Keep your three Pokemon around the same level. The lowest level your opponent's Pokemon can be is lv.50, so that's a good level if you're taking the lv.50 challenge. If you're taking the Open Level challenge, it's good if your Pokemon are all on at least lv.60, which is the minimum.
- Equip items that automatically restore health each turn, like the Shell Bell or Leftovers.
- Have your Pokemon types be different, so you won't be exposed with one major weakness.
- Make sure your Pokemon have good attacks, and at least one very powerful attack.
Battle Area
Frontier Brain: Greta, Arena Tycoon
Symbol:Guts Symbol
Silver Symbol: End of the 4th round
Gold Symbol: End of the 8th round
Description: You will be judged on Mind, Skill, and Body in the Battle Arena. This is somewhat like the Battle Tents. The goal is to beat your opponent on the three areas. Mind is judged on the willingness to fight of your Pokemon. Skill depends on moves--super effective hits are good here, and not very effective hits are not. Finally, Body is how much HP a Pokemon has.
Greta's Pokemon:
![]()
Heracross, Umbreon, Shedinja
Use Pokemon whose attacks have type advantages against the opponent. Shedinja won't be very easy.
Battle Dome
Frontier Brain: Tucker, Dome Ace
Symbol:Tactics Symbol
Silver Symbol: End of the 5th round
Gold Symbol: End of the 10th round
Description: You will be paired up with one of the 15 other trainers for each match, and you will use two of your Pokemon against two random Pokemon of your opponent's. After you defeat one opponent, you will be paired up with another one, and so forth until you eliminate all your opponents. There are Round One, Round Two, Semifinals, and Finals. Each round consists of four battles, one of which you will be in.
Tucker's Pokemon:
![]()
Salamence, Swampert, Charizard
Use a good Grass attack on Swampert. It should be more than super effective, as Swampert is both Water and Ground. Ice and Dragon type attacks will take down Salamence, and Water or Rock attacks will defeat Charizard. This shouldn't be too hard if your Pokemon are different types and each have good movesets.
Battle Factory
Frontier Brain: Noland, Factory Head
Symbol:Knowledge Symbol
Silver Symbol: End of the 3rd round
Gold Symbol: End of the 6th round
Description: Aw, you don't get to use your own Pokemon in the Battle Factory. Like with Battle Tents, you rent three Pokemon, and for every battle you win
you can swap a Pokemon with one of your opponents.
Noland's Pokemon: ???
Because everyone has to use rental Pokemon, you'll never know what Noland's team would be. So you should swap around and get a good team of different types and good attacks.
Battle Palace
Frontier Brain: Spencer, Palace Maven
Symbol:Spirits Symbol
Silver Symbol: End of the 3rd round
Gold Symbol: End of the 6th round
Description: Your Pokemon will decide their own moves, and the move they choose will be based on their nature.
Spencer's Pokemon:
Beware of Crobat's Poison attacks and Slaking's Yawn. Trust in your Pokemon and believe in yourself. =P (What? It's not like you can choose your own attacks for this. XD)
Battle Pike
Frontier Brain: Lucy, Pike Queen
Symbol:Luck Symbol
Silver Symbol: End of the 2nd round
Gold Symbol: End of the 10th round
Description: More luck-depending here! There are many rooms, and with each one you have to choose which of the next three rooms you wish to enter. There will
be a lady standing at each "intersection", and she'll give you some really crappy hints. In each room you'll either have to battle trainers, run into wild Pokemon, get a status condition,
or if you're lucky, get healed or pass through safely without anything happening.
Lucy's Pokemon:
Hope you'll be fully healed with all your heart before you battle Lucy. Psychic and Ground type attacks work best on Seviper, and if you have a strong Psychic/Ground attack you can usually instant KO it. Use some powerful Electric attacks on Milotic, and try to deal a lot of damage each time because Milotic will use Recover time to time. Use Water or Flying attacks on Shuckle, and hope that you won't get status conditions, although you're likely to. Seviper isn't much if you can KO it, but Milotic and Shuckle are different things...
Battle Pyramid
Frontier Brain: Brandon, Pyramid King
Symbol:Brave Symbol
Silver Symbol: End of the 3rd round
Gold Symbol: End of the 6th round
Description: A really tough one, this is. First off, the levels are completely dark, and you can't have any items - you can only use items that you find
in the challenge. Wild Pokemon will come up and try to give you status conditions, and there's trainers, too. Fortunately, defeating trainers gives you a wider range of vision and they give you hints,
too. There are seven floors to get through. Flash will not work.
Brandon's Pokemon:
Unfortunately, Brandon has legendaries, and some of the most annoying ones to catch, too. You won't be healed when you get to him, to screw that. @_@ Fighting attacks should nail all three Regis. Good luck! You'll need it.
Battle Tower
Frontier Brain: Anabel, Salon Maiden
Symbol:Ability Symbol
Silver Symbol: End of the 5th round
Gold Symbol: End of the 10th round
Description: Identical to the Battle Tower in Ruby/Sapphire. You have to defeat seven trainers in a row, and there are four different kinds of battle styles. You'll get
symbols for only Single Battles, though.
Anabel's Pokemon:
Oh geez Anabel has a legendary. Snorlax will use Yawn on you and then Rest, so it might be good to switch out your Pokemon before it falls asleep. Hit Entei with super-effective attacks like Water types, and Alakazam with Dark.
