Chapter 1
Skye sat on a bench in the shade of a tree. It was lunchtime and the hot sun was high in the sky. She was just about to start her lunch when a ball came flying her way. She just managed to dodge it. Looking up she saw Marco.
'Hey!' yelled Skye, 'What's the big idea?'
Marco grinned sheepishly.
'Sorry!' he called back.
Skye knew he meant it but scowled anyway. He was leaving soon. He was given a Torchic not long ago and would soon be leaving on his journey. Skye was jealous. Her parents wouldn't allow her to go away. They were always worrying about her health and safety and told her of all the bad things that had happened to people because of Pokemon in the past.
But Skye didn't care. If she had Pokemon, what could happen?
Skye started to eat her lunch again when another ball came her way. Skye spun round and stood up, marching over to Marco.
'Look!' she snarled, 'Just because you're getting outta here and I'm not doesn't mean you can keep kicking footballs at me!'
Marco blinked, obviously embarrassed.
'Sorree!' he said back, trying to keep his cool.
'You will be!' Skye growled, walking off.
Later that day, as Skye was walking home, she wondered what it would be like on a journey. Both of her parents had been on them. they had two Pokemon left as pets now, Houndour and Growlithe. Dog Pokemon.
'Why have you got these Pokemon and not starters?' Skye had asked when she was six.
'Because we started differently.' replied her father.
Skye shook her head. That wasn't the reason. She knew from her creeping around and listening in that her parents had problems with Team Rocket as kids. Some of their Pokemon were stolen. That's what she knew.
She finally reached her house. She pushed open the gate, walked down the path and let herself in.
'I'm home!' she called. She walked into the sitting room and was shocked by what she saw.
'What..?' was all she could say.
Skye was shocked beyond words. Sitting on the sofa, gazing up at her, was a Mudkip.
Skye's mther walked in and smiled.
'Mum, what's going on?' asked Skye.
'Can't you guess?' replied her mother with a sigh, 'Do you want to go on a journey or not?'
Skye nodded slowly.
'So it's mine?' she wondered.
Her mother nodded and handed the pokemon to her. Skye hugged it tight then hugged her mother.
'Thank you.' she whispered.
